It's hard to believe in two days I will have a 3 year old! On the 9th, 3 years ago, we were about to enter a series of events that the world, and myself, have never experienced. I have never given birth and the world was about to get shut down because of a pandemic. Life was about to change!
Well let me tell you, I am beyond thankful for that 3 year old boy. He has taught us so much in his short 3 years of life. He is stubborn, witty, funny and so, so loving. He taught us patience, perseverance, and to enjoy the simple things. His imagination is wild and his new passion for drawing and art is compelling.
Well just a week ago, my son had requested a crocheted dinosaur. So I sat him down and we scrolled Pinterest, until he found the perfect one. So I set to work, since this was the first crochet request my son has asked for. Below is the link for the dinosaur pattern.
Since he requested this dinosaur right before his birthday, I knew this dinosaur needed to sport a birthday hat! Therefore I designed the perfect birthday hat for his dinosaur. Below you can find the free pattern. Please tag me in all completed projects on Instagram and/or Facebook!

The next row is to add the strings for the hat, if you are not adding the strings, just sl stitch across the edge. [30]
15: CH 30 stitches, then sl st back down the chain. When you get to the main part of the hat, sl st 14 stitches, then CH 30 stitches, then sl st back down the chain. On the main part of the hat, sl stitch to the stitch marker.
Fasten off the main colored yarn, cut the tail and weave in the ends.
Change to the accent yarn color.
Attach yarn at the base of the CH.
16: SC across the rim of the hat, when you get to the CH, sc in the front loop of the CH.
Fasten off, cut the tail and weave in the ends.
Spirals:
Make 3, with the accent yarn color.
Leave a long tail to start, CH 10
3 SC in each stitch across [27]
Fasten off and leave a long tail for stitching.
When all three spirals are made, attach them to the beginning stitches of the hat. Weave the ends into the inside of the hat, knot the 6 ends together and cut. I did not weave in the ends, but you can leave a short tail inside of the hat.
Now you have a birthday hat for your dinosaur, or any animal in your child's collection!
